The Legend of Korra Continues

Just as its predecessor Avatar: The Last Airbender did, The Legend of Korra‘s story will continue in the form of graphic novels. The series, titled Turf Wars, will have co-creator Michael DiMartino, along with feedback from the other co-creator Bryan Konietzko, working with artist Irene Koh in the development of this continuation.

Turf War starts as Korra and Asami return from the spirit world to find everything is peaceful and happy. You don’t believe me? Okay fine. As they return to obvious chaos, Korra and Asami will need to watch each other’s backs and grow stronger as a team. Republic City will be involved in more political nonsense as the human and spirit conflict increases due to a developer wanting to use the spirit portal as an amusement park. The triads are back and are causing havoc once again. Nothing is very peaceful or happy as usual.

As the successful Avatar: The Last Airbender novels did with the fate of Zuko and Azula’s mother, Turf Wars will likely delve into certain aspects of the series further, but otherwise the series was neatly wrapped up so it may just focus on its brand new story. Hopefully Korra and Asami’s relationship will be more open, as Konietzko explains on Tumblr (worth the read) how Nickelodeon was supportive to a point, yet there was still a limit.

I think it was beautiful honestly.

The books are available for preorder through local comic shops and will be released June 2017.

Looking for a brand new Avatar? Both Konietzko and DiMartino are working on different projects at the moment, but the idea is not out of the realm of possibility. They’ve had issues dealing with Nickelodeon in the past, especially since the last season was only offered exclusively online. This makes it seem unlikely the network will let us see the next Earth Avatar, but maybe Netflix or Amazon can pick up the series as both networks have a history on continuing canceled series from other networks.

What do you think? Do you think Nickelodeon will pick up the series again? Do you think Netflix or Amazon have a chance at continuing the legends? How do you think Korra’s graphic novels will do? Leave your opinions in the comments and let us know!
