Wolverine 3 Could Be Death of Wolverine?

Hugh Jackman has gone on the record as saying his next “Wolverine” stand-alone movie will most likely be his last portrayal as the Canuckle-head, Logan. In an interview with SFX, Jackman confirmed, “If I did another one I’m 99.9% sure it would be the last, so that will inform what it is for me.” Speculators initially assumed that the third Wolverine film would be an adaptation of the ever-popular “Old Man Logan” story in comics, stemming from a previous announcement stating that as the plan. Yet due to licensing divides among studios, FOX does not own many of the properties needed for this star-studded story arc. An overhaul on the “Old Man Logan” story, changing characters that aren’t FOX owned into X-Men and other related properties, could still happen, but things don’t look good for the new film’s premise.

In volume #5 of the Wolverine comics in 2014, he contracted a virus that negated his mutant healing factor which began a story arc where Logan learns to accept his mortality, and eventually his own death. It was a relatively well-received comic series that laid the hero to rest in spectacular fashion. This became a beacon for fans to finally see a ‘good’ Wolverine film, and see one of Marvel’s best Canadians done justice on the big screen. Will this become the new movie’s plot? Current speculation seems to steer the focus to this comic being used as a source for the upcoming plot, as well as others aligned in the Marvel universe owned by FOX. Many fear that this new Wolverine film could be his last. Fear not, true believers! Not only do the leaked pictures seem to show both an aged Logan and Professor X, they seem to show a little girl thought to be none other than X-23 (Logan’s daughter and current Wolverine mantle-holder)! So there may be future Wolverine movies, just with a new hero ‘snikt’ing some adamantium claws. Stay tuned!
