An early alpha release with great visuals, audio, and atmosphere, no story mode though there is one coming, and sometimes item pickup is buggy. Keep your eye on this one.
Noct is described as a “2D top-down multiplayer survival horror game that blends arcade fighting with RPG survival game elements”. Essentially, you are a survivor in a wasteland and have no idea who else is around or what awaits you.
There are random items placed all around the map including guns, ammo, med supplies, water, and other normal essentials. You explore the world while hunting these items and avoiding the terrifying creatures that roam the world. It is not your typical arcade apocalyptic game in which zombies race at your face and you try to outlast them. Instead, the game has strange, large, and terrifying monsters that randomly encounter you and initially scare the unholy crap out of you.
What really makes this game enticing is the visuals and appearance of the game. The game is only in black and white and the scheme can be inverted if you wish. It almost feels as though you are viewing the game from a satellite. This feeling is definitely the most endearing part of the game.
The game has multiplayer (requires port forwarding), an amazing soundtrack, and great potential. However, heed this one warning: the game is only a shell so far. It is an early access alpha release. There are no real objectives yet. It is strictly an explore-and-encounter game at the moment. The developer, while dedicated, is doing this in his spare time after his normal everyday job.
In addition, the only real issue i ran into with the controls is when attempting to pick up items. If you are too close, you can’t click properly because of the way the aiming works in the game. If you are too far… well, then you are too far.
If an unfinished game is not your cup of tea, maybe give the game a follow and check on it until more content is added. Otherwise, I highly recommend supporting this developer and giving this game a look. Watch it grow into its final project because it has an insanely unique look and feel to it.
While it is currently only a shell of what it plans to be, Noct has fully functional multiplayer, endearing visuals, and an immersive soundtrack. It is, however, lacking any current in game direction. In it’s current state there is no story mode, no objectives, and slightly wonky controlling when picking things up. These add up to a lack of replay value until the developer adds the planned additional content.
