Members of Weezer’s super cool fan club were the first to hear their new single, I Love the USA, was released to Apple Music at 11pm on June 28th. An email was sent out announcing the single was available, and fan clubbers across the globe flocked to iTunes for an exclusive first listen!

What does this have to do with nerdy news? Aside from Weezer being the father of all things nerdy in the music world, they partnered with NASA for this amazing new single.

The email read in part:

Greetings Earthlings! We are thrilled to let you know that weezer is part of a super cool promotion with NASA (yes, NASA!) and Apple for the space program Mission Juno.Karl and Lisa, the Weezer Fan Club Crew

The song isn’t released without controversy. In the Facebook group for fan club members only, many fans voiced their dismay that the song includes, *shock*, the “F” word. Although frontman Rivers Cuomo has been known to write songs on topics about drugs, alcohol, partying and sex, this F-bomb seemed to come as a shock to many. Never fear, there is a non-explicit version of the song available for download as well.

The single is released in the middle of Weezer’s US Tour where they are co-headlining with Panic! At the Disco all across the states. Weezer will be playing at Jones Beach in New York tonight and possibly give those fans the first LIVE version of this awesome new song!

About Skylit

Skylit is a rollercoaster riding, thrill seeking geek who loves Weezer and Kevin Smith more than anything in this world. Dragging the kids out on adventures to toughen them up is a must. No silly Disney Cruises for us, we'll go trek DC or hike the Grand Canyon instead, tyvm.
