Well, Almost here. Let’s just put it this way, it is more of a reality than any of the other things Kevin Smith has announced in years past (i.e. Ranger Danger and the Danger Rangers, Clerks: Sell Out, Hit Somebody, Clerks 3, Mallrats 2 aka MallBrats. Oh, sorry, got carried away there).
Kevin Smith officially announced on his Facebook page on Friday, June 24, 2016, that Mallrats the Series, is a GO!
Smith originally announced Mallrats 2 as a sequel to his cult classic 1995 movie over a year ago, but due to unforeseen circumstances on ownership of the title by Universal Studios, he had to adapt it to a 10 episode television series instead.
This isn’t Smith’s first dabble in the television arena. He recently directed an episode of The Flash and also had a short-lived cartoon series based on his first film, Clerks, back in 2000 called Clerks: The Animated Series. It was cancelled after just 2 episodes aired (out of order, mind you), but the entire series is available for purchase over at Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash if you’re interested.
Smith has eluded to using the Exton Square Mall in Chester County, PA as the set after attempts to use the unoccupied Granite Run Mall in Middletown failed. That mall was closed in 2015 and is being demolished to make room for the Promenade at Granite Run.
Smith says they’ll need lots of extras to make the mall appear full, so if you’ve ever dreamed of being in a Kevin Smith film, this is your chance!
