So many people are watching this trailer and commenting how it’s not Resident Evil. The vast majority of comments I’ve read say how they’ve been Resident Evil fans since the start but now this iteration is ruining the feel of the franchise. Is Capcom simply trying to ride the excitement of the unreleased P.T. Silent Hill?
No. I agree with Capcom when they say they’re going back to their roots.
If you had to describe the entire Resident Evil series, in what genre do you feel it fits? Would you say run-and-gun like the latest releases? That’s nothing like the puzzle-solving and conserve your ammo games like how it began. So you’d say survival horror? But the latest games feel too much like an arcade to be survival horror at all. Simply put, there is no collective term you can classify Resident Evil under. I wouldn’t even call it a zombie game lately because of all the parasite enemies. Since Resident Evil 4, I feel the series has sloped downhill completely. This game can bring the series back to its roots as a survival horror.
That all being said, when I first watched the trailer I had the same thoughts as all the negative comments I’ve read. Being first-person the entire time is a completely different take on the franchise. It doesn’t change the atmosphere of what the game is, just the experience and general thrill of needing to turn around to see what’s behind you. A terrifying way to play would be VR, which Capcom said the game is fully compatible with Playstation VR. I mean, thanks, but no thanks. I’d need to buy a few new packs of underoos if I played this in VR.
