This is a fun cheap game, good for a laugh or two, especially with friends!

Looking for a fun game for cheap? Look no further! On Steam, you can buy a first-person shooter called “Blood And Bacon” for less than a dollar (at the time of this writing) and it is well worth the money.

617153448_preview_ss4The game’s actual plot centers on you (and a friend or two, if you wish) helping a farmer fend off waves of crazed swine. The farmer himself is pinned to a wall of the barn you start each day in, giving you pointers and new weapons as you progress. Each day is a wave, and every ten days you fight a boss or some other challenge, and every so often there’s a “Revenge Day”, where you get infinite ammo and get to practice trick shots and just let off a little steam. The longer you play, the crazier the game gets. The difficulty builds in an organic enough way, and the weapons are powerful yet not overpowered to keep it challenging. New breeds of pig are introduced throughout the game, and their weak-spots vary as you progress. Power-ups are given to the player by feeding the corpses of your foes into a meat grinder in order to earn the ‘blood’ currency needed to buy them. There are ammo caches, strength boosts, speed boosts, and more to be bought. Health can quickly drain, and quickly replenished at a water pump found on the farm.

blood and baconThe biggest fault with this game is the sound design. There are a lot of annoying noises that repeat often, and a little variation would be greatly appreciated. The voice acting is poor, but hilariously entertaining. The enemy design can be a little gross at times, especially the ‘Princess’ boss, and yet it’s rather fun to blow a head off a pig and watch it still try to kill you, covering your screen in blood. The menus can be a little confusing at times, and the key bindings are a mess, so it could take a little getting used to in order to really get into the game. Other than that, I’d recommend this game to anyone who needs a little variety in their library.
